Waters That Shaped Us: Early Tourism in Elora & Niagara
Join us for the newest in our local lecture series, exploring how Elora Gorge and Niagara Falls became two of Ontario’s earliest and most visited destinations.
Local historian, storyteller, and author Al Koop blends personal history from Niagara Falls with early accounts of Elora’s falls and rugged gorge to trace how these natural wonders evolved into must‑see destinations. Explore how the roots of travel and tourism in the province shaped the way people experienced and connected with the landscape, with a focus on Elora’s cultural awakening in that story.
Open conversation on the current surge of tourism in Elora will follow after a brief intermission to share stories and connect with your community.
Enjoy a cocktail and our newly refined menu in our Royal Room while learning how art and eco-tourism helped to define the region we know today.
$10 per person in advance, $12 at the door if space allows.
Thursday March 12th, doors at 6pm, show at 7pm.
About our Host: Al Koop has been an avid collector and performer of stories, ballads and folk songs. As a member of the Wellington County Historical Society since 1978, he has developed a special interest in local history, oral accounts, stories and songs.
