Elora’s Tories and Reformers: Booze, Politics, and Power in a Divided Village

This isn't your average lecture! Celebrated local author, actor, and historian Al Koop is bringing us a new lively presentation that shares the stories of the big personalities, passions, and power struggles that shaped Elora’s spirited past.

Join us as we step back to 1867, when the arrival of the railroad turned up the heat in Elora’s political scene. Tories toasted to freedom with taverns on every corner, while Reformers clashed over how (or whether) to rein in the booming liquor trade. With seven hotels pouring drinks late into the night, the stakes were high - and so were the prohibition tensions.

Lucky for us, we've moved well past the point of prohibition! Enjoy a cocktail in our Royal Room while learning about the history that brought us into the present.

$10 per person in advance, $12 at the door if space allows.

Thursday November 6th, doors at 7pm, show at 8pm.
